Former soldier kills 5, including police officer, in ex-Soviet Georgia

TBILISI (Reuters – Five people were killed by a Georgian man who opened fire from a balcony in a residential building. He then turned his gun on him, according to the Georgian interior ministry.

It wasn’t clear what drove the shooting at Sagarejo (east of Tbilisi).

“Additional Police teams were mobilized at scene of incident, along with a special unit of Ministry of Internal Affairs. The ministry stated that the accused had allegedly killed himself with a firearm upon their arrival.

Georgian media identified shooter as a former soldier from Georgia who had served with the contingent in Afghanistan.
