George wins 27 points, leads No. 21 Baylor wins over Texas Tech 81-7

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Keyonte George scored 27 points, and No. Texas Tech lost 81-74 to 21 Baylor on Tuesday.

George scored 18 in the second quarter as the Bears (13-5 and 3-3 Big12) won their third consecutive game. LJ Cryer scored 18 points and Jalen Bridges had 14 for Baylor. Baylor returned to the AP Top 25 this Week.

Texas Tech (10-8-8, 0-6) was led by Jaylon Tyson with 19 points. Pop Isaacs had 14 and Fardaws Asimaq had 12. Kevin Obanor also added 10. The Bears led 70-54 at halftime, thanks to a 20-9 run. But the Raiders battled back and cut the gap to just 77-71.

With 55 seconds remaining, Texas Tech was within five points of the lead on an Isaacs free-throw. On Isaacs’ second free throw, the Raiders took the offensive rebound but were unable to convert.

Both teams shot the ball well during the first half. Each team connected on more than 50% from the floor. Baylor broke the tie at 22-22 with a 7-1 run, which was highlighted by George’s 3 pointer. The Bears were 18 of 35 from the floor, including 7 out 15 from 3-point range within the first 20 minutes. Tech was 15 to 26 and 7 of 15 beyond the arc.

After the Bears took an offensive rebound, the Red Raiders reduced the gap to just 40-36. Cryer converted a 3-pointer and the Red Raiders closed it at 40-36. Tech extended their lead to 48-38 after Cryer’s third 3-pointer.

BIG PICTURE

Baylor converted 11 of its 29 3-point attempts to increase its lead midway through the second period. Texas Tech is currently 0-6 against members the AP Top 25. On Saturday, it will face its fourth consecutive ranked teams.
