Sam Houston leads by Grant, Powers past New Mexico State, 75-62.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Qua Grant scored 17 points and Donte Powers added 14 as Sam Houston used a strong first half to top New Mexico State, 75-62 in a Western Athletic Conference battle Saturday night.

Powers scored five points in a 70 run that brought the Bearkats to 19-7 within six minutes. The Bearkats tallied an additional 13-point lead at intermission, which was 38-25.

Grant made 6 of 16 field shots, and Sam Houston was able to make 3 of 10 distance shots (11-3, 1-1). Powers was 4 for 7 from far, while Tristan Ikpe made it all, hitting all four field goals attempts and being 2-for-2 from close to the line to score 11 more points.

Xavier Pinson (New Mexico State) and DaJuan Gordon each scored 13 points. Marchelus Alvery also scored 12 points.
