Dwelling Depot Canada discovered sharing buyer private information with Meta

(Reuters) – Dwelling Depot Inc’s Canadian arm was discovered to be sharing particulars from e-receipts associated to in-store purchases with Fb proprietor Meta Platforms Inc with out the information or consent of its prospects, based on Canada’s privateness regulator.

An investigation by the Workplace of the Privateness Commissioner of Canada (OPC) discovered that by taking part in Meta’s offline conversions program Dwelling Depot shared the e-receipts that included encoded e-mail addresses and buy data.

The regulator added that the house items chain stopped sharing buyer data with Meta in October 2022, which was among the many suggestions made by OPC, till the corporate is ready to implement measures to make sure legitimate consent.
