“I knew that I was in trouble.”

Tinordi on slapshot to mouth: ‘I knew I was in some trouble’ Original version: NBC Sports Chicago

Jarred Tinordi is the most unlucky player in the NHL, I believe.

Tinordi had a hip injury earlier in the season. Tinordi missed a few games. On his first game back, Tinordi suffered a laceration below his chin due to a skate blade. It required 50-100 stitches. He was away for the entire period and returned wearing a protective shield in the second.

Nine days later in his first game with no protective shield, Tinordi took an ice slapshot to the face. Tinordi immediately went to locker room. Tinordi was horrified to see the blood trail on the ice and didn’t realize the extent of his injuries until later. It was worse than he thought.

Tinordi stated that it was more shocking than anything at the beginning. I didn’t understand what was happening. I felt that my teeth were not in the right place and I knew that I was in serious trouble.

“You don’t realize how awful it is until you go back to the room and take another look. The doctors and the staff were in shock, I believe, so they knew it was very bad. You think that you’re just going to go back out, but it turns out you aren’t. This was not the truth.

Tinordi had to stay the night in hospital and was then able to undergo surgery to correct multiple fractures to his face the next day. He broke it in three places so he needed two plates. His jaw was wired up for five weeks.

Tinordi was able to eat normal food again on Tuesday after removing the wires from his mouth. He had been eating soup more than a year.

Tinordi stated that it can become monotonous and you get tired of it. “Not all soups translate through the blender. But the beef noodle was delicious.”

Tinordi claimed that he has almost regained his weight after losing 15 pounds in just four days. He is expected to be back in the NHL All-Star Break. Tinordi will take the next few weeks off to get up to speed.

Tinordi dismissed his injuries from nine days ago as nothing but fluky. Tinordi is hopeful that his luck will change as he moves forward.

Tinordi stated that “it is what it’s,” It was beyond my control. It’s not like it’s something I would have done differently. This is just dumb luck.

“After surgery, there’s a lot of stretching and you have to be patient. It’s hard to feel good and not get down. But once I started going to the rink and seeing guys, and was able practice with the group, it really changed my mental state.

“I have had some injuries, but not back-to-back on my face. I’m hoping that’s the end of it.
