‘I’m So Happy for Her’ (Exclusive)
“It’s so rude of her to make a hit like [‘Please Please Please’] … so rude to make such an addicting music video,” King says
Joey King is more than just happy about her friend Sabrina Carpenter‘s recent success as a pop star — she’s also pretty obsessed with her songs!
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the Despicable Me 4 premiere at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City on Sunday, June 9, The Act star, 24, says its difficult to describe how happy she feels for the “Espresso” singer, 25.
“Yesterday is the first time I’ve seen her perform in a few years because every time that I wanted to go to one of her big shows, our just schedules kind of miss each other,” King says, referring to seeing Carpenter perform at the Governors Ball music festival on Saturday, June 8.

“I literally was sobbing after the show. I was so proud of her. She’s just amazing,” King adds, reflecting on her friend’s performance.
Plus, King is obsessed with Carpenter’s new song, “Please Please Please,” which was produced by Taylor Swift‘s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff.
“I’m so happy for her and I just can’t stop singing ‘Please Please Please’ … get out of my head,” the Bullet Train star admits to PEOPLE.
“It’s so rude of her to make a hit like that. It’s also so rude to make such an addicting music video,” she continues, referring to the music video that stars Carpenter’s boyfriend, Barry Keoghan. ”It’s really rude to make me watch it six times at 2:00 a.m. when I want to go to bed.”
King and Carpenter, who both have backgrounds with Disney, met many years ago at an industry charity event, but weren’t instantly the best friends they are today, King told Wired.
