IMF chief to Rwanda during Africa visit -sources

WASHINGTON (Reuters), – Kristalina Georgieva, chief of the International Monetary Fund, will travel to Rwanda later in the month after she has visited Zambia. Three sources familiar with the plans confirmed this Friday.

Georgieva said Thursday that she would travel to Zambia in the following week, but it was not reported previously about her visit to Rwanda. Georgieva will travel next week to Africa, after she speaks at the World Economic Forum (Davos, Switzerland)

The IMF did not immediately comment.

Rwanda was the first African country that received IMF funding under the new Resilience and Sustainability Trust. In October, the IMF signed a staff level agreement with Rwanda regarding a 36-month financing package worth $310 million.

The IMF at the time stated that the funding would enable the country to continue its economic reforms as well as build climate resilience.
