Jordan Burch named among ESPN’s biggest instant-impact transfers in 2023

While it’s important to recruit players and be able to develop that talent on your roster across the span of a few years in college football, the introduction of the transfer portal over the past half-decade has really changed things. The portal allows teams to search for players who are ready to make an immediate impact on their team, whether they have a need or want to get better at a particular position.

The Oregon Ducks have done an excellent job of this via the portal. A recent example was Jordan Burch (ex-edge rusher in South Carolina), who is a former 5-star recruit, drawing comparisons to Jadeveon Crlowney as a high school graduate.

This offseason, we offer some praises to transfer portal players ESPN named Burch One of the most recognizable men who can make an immediate impact in 2023 is:

He was an impact presence the last time that the Ducks brought in an Edge Defender with such a type of physical tools. Burch, to be clear, is not Kayvon Thibodeaux, but as a five-star prospect in the 2020 class, he possesses impact ability. He is coming off his most productive season when he was among South Carolina’s leading tacklers and most disruptive pass-rushers. Burch, a defender with great length, power and control, can help improve a defense that ranked at 115th among the 131 FBS team in sacks. Although he has not yet fulfilled his lofty expectations, he appears to be heading to Eugene having begun to realize some potential and could be an important addition to Oregon.

Burch isn’t the only transfer who comes to Eugene with the chance to put up big numbers in 2023. Ajani Cornelius (OT) from Rhode Island was also a top transfer. Also, S Evan Williams, WR Traeshon Helden (Alabama), LB Jestin Jakes (Iowa), LB Jestin Jacksons (Iowa) and CB Khyree Jack (Alabama) were all part of the Ducks.
