Kate Middleton’s Coronation Jewels Included A Subtle Nod To Princess Diana

Kate Middleton arrived at Westminster Abbey for the coronation of King Charles III — and she wasn’t wearing a tiara. The princess of Wales wore a stunning ivory flower crown by Jess Collett and Alexander McQueen. The princess of Wales and other senior royals chose a low-key style to match the tone of this scaled-back event.

The elegant royal combined the topper with a dress in ivory, also by Alexander McQueen and a red-white-and blue outfit to pay homage to the Union Jack. She wore her hair up in an elegant style and completed her outfit with princess Diana’s pearl earring.

Only King Charles and Queen Camilla will wear ornate crowns during the ceremony. The queen’s crown will be adorned with Queen Mary’s CrownThis is the very first time in modern history that an old crown was re-used to coronate a monarch. House of Garrard, a royal jeweler, designed the 2,200-diamond headpiece for King George V’s coronation in June 1911. The King will wear a headpiece that features 2,200 diamonds. St. Edward’s Crown — which was made for King Charles II and used at his coronation in 1661 — to be officially declared as the new monarch of England.

Kate was joined by Prince William and his three adorable children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. There have been rumors that the prince of Wales will also wear a crown for today’s event. It is possible he may don the coronet of Charles Prince of Wales which Queen Elizabeth commissioned for his fathers investiture in 1970. There are currently no plans to hold a formal Investiture for Prince William.
