Lady Vols defeat Florida in SEC opener
The Lady Vols opened SEC play on Thursday with a victory at the road.
Tennessee defeated Georgia in its second consecutive victory Florida, 77-67, Thursday at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Florida.
The Lady Vols (9-6-1, 1-0 SEC), overcame a slow start by committing 14 turnovers in halftime.
The Gators (11-3, 1-1) held a lead of 15-14 in the first quarter before Tennessee scored 22 to win the second half.
Rickea Jackson, a senior forward, scored a record 28 points to lead Tennessee. She finished the game with nine rebounds, a season-high of 13, and was 10-for-13 on the floor for the Lady Vols. They led 56 to 46 at the quarter’s end.
Jordan Horston finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, as well as three steals for Lady Vols.
