Late run lifts No. 6 Indiana over No. 9 Maryland 68-61

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Sydney Parrish scored 18 points and No. 6 Indiana’s defense stifled No. 9 Maryland with a win of 68 to 61 Thursday

Maryland guard Diamond Miller led an aggressive fourth-quarter charge. She scored 12 of her 19 points in that quarter to close the eight-point gap for the Terrapins (13-4 Big Ten, 4-2 Big Ten).

After Miller’s play tied the game at 50 with a layup, Indiana (15-1-41) responded by scoring four runs of 9-0 from different players that won the game.

Maryland scored 37% from the line and 6 out of 18 from beyond, while Indiana scored 51% and 6 out of 15 from 3-point range.

Maryland was outscored 16-7 by Indiana in the second quarter. This was due in part to Indiana’s 9-0 run halfway through the game that began with a Parrish 3-pointer. Maryland missed five shots and made two free throws in the second quarter. Maryland shot 27% from below the line and scored just 7 points for the season.

The Terrapins were averaging 80 point per game at the start of the night. They also ranked second in the Big Ten for 3-point shooting. The Terps were also second to last in the Big Ten in turnovers, but the Hoosiers’ defense had little problem forcing turnovers. Grace Berger and Chloe Moore McNeil had four steals each, while Indiana took the ball twelve times. Parrish then added three more steals, before being kicked out in the closing minutes.

Berger scored 11 points, and had 8 assists in her Assembly Hall debut game after missing November’s game due to a knee injury.

BIG PICTURE

Maryland: The Terrapins ended a six-game winning streak, which included a win over the then-No. 6 UConn.

UP NEXT

Maryland: Maryland will return home on Sunday to face Rutgers, for the second consecutive week.

Indiana: Wisconsin hosts Indiana on Sunday, in the only matchup this season between these two schools.
