In her last Instagram post Before she death on Thursday at the age of 54The singer-songwriter shared an image of a PEOPLE essay that she had written about grief.
“Hi. “Hi. @people. “I thought I’d post this here in the hope that anyone who needs it it helps,” she wrote in the caption to the Aug. 30 posting.

There’s so much more to be learned and understood on this subject. Here are my thoughts so far. One, grief doesn’t stop or disappear in any way, no matter how long it takes.

After the death of her son, she shared her own personal experience and stated, “Grief” is something that you will carry with your entire life, despite what certain people and our culture may want us to believe. You do not ‘get over it,’ you do not ‘move on,’ period.”
She shared a touching tribute to her son a month earlier with a photo showing their feet on a chair while they displayed their matching tattoos.
In the caption, she explained: the July 12 post This mother-son pair had gotten matching tattoos “several year ago, on Mother’s Day.”
“It’s an eternal Celtic knot,” she explained. “Symbolizing our eternal connection. It was carefully chosen to symbolize our eternal love and our everlasting bond. 💔😞”

Lisa Marie’s mother made the following statement to PEOPLE on Thursday evening: “It’s with a heavy heart that we must share the tragic news that my beautiful child Lisa Marie has died. She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I’ve ever met. As we grieve, we ask for your privacy. We are grateful for your prayers and love. There will be no more comment at this time.”

PEOPLE received confirmation from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, that paramedics were called to Calabasas’ 5900 block Normandy drive to assist a woman in her 50s with breathing problems. Paramedics performed CPR on the patient upon arrival and transferred her to a nearby hospital for “immediate medical treatment.”
