Atlanta AFC Title Game tickets were sold out in record numbers of 50,000

ATLANTA (AP) — More than 50,000 tickets were sold in the first 24 hours for a potential AFC championship game in Atlanta, the NFL said Friday.

Season-ticket holders for the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills were given priority access to tickets If the Jan. 29 match is played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The league revamped its playoff system The game between Buffalo and the Cincinnati Bengal was cancelled. After Bills safety Damar Hamelin, a Bills player, fell on the field in Week 17 and there was not enough time to make up the difference, the contest was called off.

With a win over the Bengals, the Bills could have claimed home field in the AFC playoffs. However, Buffalo lost one game and was half-game behind Kansas City as the top seed. The league decided that neutral sites would be used in the event of both teams reaching the conference championship.

Atlanta’s 75,000-seat retractable-roof stadium was chosen for the site. If either Kansas City, Buffalo, or both lose this weekend in divisional round the AFC championship would be played at the team higher-seeded.

Atlanta Bills fans will be on one side and Chiefs supporters on the other.

Tickets for the Atlanta playoff game would be on sale if they are still available on Monday.
