The seller – Blobby01 – According to the BBC, the costume is an original BBC costume that was used in an international version of the show.
They said that the show was cancelled before it could be delivered. The BBC and the broadcaster did not want it. It sat in their offices until they moved it.
So the iconic TV memorabilia was sold and is now being moved.
They described the condition of the item as follows: “Consequently, it is now more than 25 years old, there will be the inevitable ageing of the foam and rubberised coating.
This means that it is less appropriate to wear as the unit isn’t as flexible as it was in 1996. Additionally, one of the plastic eye sockets has broken and two arms must be reattached. The bow tie also needs to secure.
“Overall, it’s not too poor for its age – however, there is visible creasing to the covering and dust to some areas. Some areas may require glue to fix.”
They also mentioned that Mr Blobby is trademarked so the costume can only ever be used in your home.
The auction site has received 72 bids since the listing was posted.
With five days to go, the current top bid is a whopping £8,200.
