Patriots assistant coach receiving ‘high interest’ from division rival

Nick Caley, New England Patriots tight ends coach, could be eligible for a promotion. It could also happen outside New England.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Caley is being considered as a “high interest” candidate for the New York Jets’ vacant offensive coordinator position. The burgeoning assistant could be leaving the Patriots. He could also be moving to a rival division if he is hired.

Caley’s name continues to come up as a possible in-house option for New England in their upcoming search for a new offensive coordinator, which is a position they haven’t officially filled since the exit of Josh McDaniels last offseason.

It would be reasonable to think that if the team was so passionate about Caley they would have offered him a job as play-caller for this season. Instead, they chose Matt Patricia, former defensive coordinator.

Caley might be forced to respond if an opportunity knocks elsewhere.
