Patriots will start interviewing ‘offensive coordinator candidates’ next week

The New England Patriots have announced they will begin the process of interviewing “offensive coordinator candidates” next week.

Yes, you read that right—offensive coordinator candidates.

The Patriots haven’t had a real offensive coordinator since losing Josh McDaniels to the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 offseason. Before Patricia was appointed, Joe Judge and Matt Patricia split the duties of offensive play-calling.

The Patriots went stale, Mac Jones fell behind at quarterback, and they finished the regular season with an 8-9 record. They did not make the playoffs. Given the amount of times the word “change” has been thrown around regarding the Patriots, it’s no surprise they’re trying to get back to a more conventional way of doing things.

Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is a name that should immediately shoot to the top of the list of possible candidates. Kliff Kingbury, the former Arizona Cardinals coach, is another intriguing candidate. You also have the option for the Patriots to keep it in-house and promote a younger coach like Nick Caley.

No matter what your options may be, the most important thing for the team is to move on to better pastures in 2023.
