Hockey players love to see a team like a family. The Pittsburgh Penguins’ decision to create one for their team on Monday is a perfect example of this.

After their win of 4-1 over the Arizona Coyotes The Penguins took a surprise turn on Sunday night before returning to Pittsburgh after a 10-day road trip. On Monday, the team arrived in Montreal at 4:45 a.m. to attend Kris Letang’s father’s funeral.

Yohe stated that Yohe, a Penguins’ staff member, had to fly from Boston to Phoenix in order to present their passports to the team. They would need to have the documents needed to enter Canada during the funeral.

His father’s death is just one more tragedy in a nightmare few months for the 35 year-old. After a disappointing start to the season, Letang suffered a stroke — the second of his career — in late November, but miraculously returned to the ice a week and a half later.

Letang was with the Penguins for all 17 NHL seasons. He was undoubtedly helped by his teammates’ kind gesture during one of his most difficult times.
