Phoebe Bridgers Confirms Her Father’s Death

Phoebe Bridgers I am in deep mourning for my father’s passing.

Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, Christina Aguilera, revealed Tuesday on Instagram that her father had died. She shared a throwback photograph of them as they listened together to music through the same pair headphones.

Bridgers 28 captioned this post: “Rest In Peace Dad.”

Bridgers’ death was not reported. However, the musician has spoken about their complex and sometimes difficult relationship over the years.

A conversation with Sam Sanders, NPR’s. It’s Only a Minute Bridgers described their relationship as “a very strange combination of” in December 2020. emotionally unavailable, but very present “In a bizarre way.”

She told the truth about her parents’ divorce when she was 20 years old. GQ September 2019. Her father, a scenic carpenter. had been abusiveShe told the outlet that she used to do drugs when she was younger.

Bridgers explained that she had her first drink at the age of 19 and has remained sober ever since. “I was not square necessarily. It scared the crap out of me. I was like, “I don’t want lose control,” she said, recalling that she thought “I think alcohol is a serious allergy” and that “I hate weed.”

Bridgers also spoke out about her father through music. Her song, “Kyoto,” is from her 2020 album. PunisherShe is well-known for her obsession with her father, starting with her frustrations over his substance abuse.

She sings the song, “You called me from your payphone / They still have payphones/ It cost one dollar per minute / To let me know you’re sober / And then you wrote me a note / But it doesn’t matter if I read it.”

Later, she says that she isn’t sure if she will be able forgive him. She croons, “I don’t forgive you/ But please don’t hold me to that.” “Born under Scorpio skies/I wanted to see the whole world / Through my eyes until it happened.”

Bridgers was able to be more understanding towards her by writing about the situation.

NPR’s She said that it was nice not to feel emotionally trapped by the stuff you have in your life. “I was angry for a long time, and… the song is basically about, like, not being angry anymore.”
