Pro Football Talk invites Commanders/Giants officials to join their ranks

The hosts Monday’s Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio and Myles Simmons certainly did not ride the fence regarding the NFL officiating of Sunday night’s Giants at Commanders game. Here are some excerpts:

The Curtis Samuel is not a pass interference call

MS: “I understand shoving the flag a little further down in your pocket in certain situations because you don’t want to necessarily be the story if you’re an official. This one is the worst. That’s egregious pass interference. I mean that is really impeding Curtis Samuel’s ability to catch the ball. He is there early.”

MF: “It was a bad call. They (NFL and officials), can say anything they want. They can make themselves go in circles. They can go after their dreams all they want. It doesn’t matter. It was a bad call (no call)…The officials get upset they are being called out. It’s a tough S_____! Don’t make mistakes and you won’t get called out!”

MF: “That’s the stuff that makes people say it’s rigged. Last night Commanders fans (were tweeting) ‘they don’t want the Commanders in the playoffs. They don’t want Dan Snyder in the playoffs’. That’s not the case. It’s just incompetence. There’s no a grand conspiracy against you. It’s just the referees aren’t very good sometimes.”

MF: “It would be nice if someone in a position of power and influence would acknowledge it. They would then do something about it. They don’t want to acknowledge it, because they don’t want to have to do anything about it…Let’s get full-time officials. Let’s do what we have to do. Let’s spend the money to make it better.”

MFL: “In an age of legalized gambling, its legitimizing the tin foil crowd. It’s making people think there are Tim Donaghy’s floating around out there. I’m the one trying to fend them all off. And at some point I am just going to give up…At some point I am just going to say, ‘NFL, it is your problem. You deal with the controversy. You are responsible for the Congressional investigation. You are responsible for the prosecution. You deal with all the stuff I’ve been trying to save you from, because it’s coming if you don’t change your ways.”

Terry McLaurin’s penalty erased the touchdown, making it 20-18

MS: Yes, it effectively was a trap, and that’s not something you usually see. Consider how many times McLaurin was looking at the ball throughout the game. He points (to the spot) throughout the game. So why is it at this point you decide I’m not going to be as helpful as I’ve been throughout the entire game?”

MS: “If he literally knows he has to be on the line of scrimmage and asks you, and moves up to do it? Put your d___ flag away. And don’t affect a play that controls the outcome of the game. I just don’t understand why somebody would do that! That one ticks me off even more than the non pass interference call!”
