The Toronto Raptors continue to lose, and so do trade rumours.

Monday NBA insider Marc Stein Reports indicate that Raptors guard Gary Trent Jr. will be available for trade as the Feb. 9 deadline approaches.

He said that he didn’t anticipate a “broad sale” in Toronto, even though Trent is being bought. Stein claims that the 23-year old can opt out of his contract to become an unrestricted, free agent this summer.

Trent Jr. has signed a 3-year contract worth $51.8 million with Toronto in 2021. If he opts in, he will be subject to a cap hit at $18.8 millions.

Trent averages 18.4 points per night and shoots 44.3 percent from behind the arc in 33 games this season. Trent has been the Raptors’ most consistent outside shooter in 2022/23, shooting 36.5 percent on seven attempts from three-point range.

The Raptors may be moving the young guard, but it appears unlikely that they will move any other stars.

“It would take lots — LOTS — to pry either O.G. Anunoby Pascal Siakam Stein stated that they were not going to the Raptors because they are determined in their desire keep both players.”

Trent’s backcourt partner Fred VanVleetRecent headlines include: several outlets reported The 28-year-old turned down a $114 million offer from Toronto for a four-year deal. VanVleet dismissed the report following the Raptors’ 117 to105 win over them Portland Trail Blazers Sunday

Reporters at Scotiabank Arena were told by he that there had never been a formal offer. “It was a mutually agreed decision by both parties that it would be wise to just wait it out.”

VanVleet’s season has been difficult since he was awarded his first All Star nod back in 2021-22. VanVleet, a Rockford, Illinois native, has been averaging 18.6 point, 6.2 assists, and 4.1% rebounds over 32 games. He shoots 37.7% from the field, and 32.9 from beyond.

VanVleet will earn $21.25-million in 2022-23, and is set to earn $22.8-million if he opts in to the fourth year of his four-year, $85-million contract — the richest contract given to an undrafted player in NBA history — he signed in November 2020.
