Roquan Smith, Ravens ILB, explains why he wanted to stay in Baltimore

Baltimore Ravens knew who they were getting when they traded Roquan for inside linebacker RoquanSmith a day ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Smith has been a consummate professional, making a huge impact in Baltimore during his brief time there.

Two of their top draft picks were traded to get him in. Now, he is signed for five more seasons on a $100m deal.  The team has added defense to help them win championships by signing Smith to the extension. Smith answered a question about why he decided to stay with Baltimore for the long-term. He said that being around his teammates and the coaching staff made it clear that he wanted to make an impact on Baltimore and be able to remain in Baltimore for the long-term.

“Honestly, when I first got here, just being around teammates, the coaching staff, everyone [and] It was amazing how welcoming they made me feel when I arrived. It felt like home immediately. When you feel like that, it’s like, ‘Man, I want to be here for the long haul and make a positive impact.’”

Smith will be one of the cornerstones of the Ravens’ defense for many years to come with his new extension. He can continue to dominate in his role and elevate his teammates, something that he’s done ever since arriving in Baltimore just a few short months ago.
