Reese is 18th in double-doubles, No. 5 LSU downs Auburn 84-54

BATON ROUGE LA. (AP) — Angel Reese had 23 points and 15 rebounds to maintain her streak of double-doubles in every game this season, and No. With a win over Auburn, 5 LSU increased its program record-record start to 18-0.

Jasmine Carson scored 18 and Alexis Morris had 10 points and 10 assists. LSU led the way throughout, improving to 6-0 Southeastern Conference play, and winning each one by 19 points or more.

Flau’jae Johnson, a freshman at LSU, added 10 points to make her score at least the same in seven of her nine games.

Precious Johnson had 13 points, and Kharyssa Richson had 10. Auburn (10-7; 0-5) lost its fifth consecutive game since opening SEC play.

Reese was a sophomore transfer from Maryland and a dominating presence on both sides of the court.

Auburn guard Sydney Shaw grabbed an errant pass from the opponent and raced to the hoop in pursuit of what was initially thought to be a breakaway layup. Reese, at 6 feet 3, met Shaw in the basket with her arms raised. Shaw picked up her ball and passed it back to the perimeter. Reese rebounded the shot and the Auburn possession was over.

Reese got a bounce pass from the edge of the play and did a quick turnaround off the glass before being fouled for the 3-point play. It was 76-50.

Reese had at least 15 rebounds in this 11th game.

LSU began scoring with Carson’s score in less than 30 seconds. It then gained its first double-digit advantage when Carson’s layup made it 22-12 late in that period. LSU extended its lead to 19 in the second quarter, after Layups by Reese and Morris (13 first-half points) and Morris.

Auburn: Auburn has looked defeated in four of five SEC games. Six losses against Missouri were the only single-digit losses. Auburn lost 32 to Mississippi and 52 to No. 1 South Carolina, and by 31 to Alabama prior to its devastating loss at LSU. Auburn shot 37% (23 out of 63), was 2nd from 13 from 3-point range, and 6th on free throws.

LSU: Reese is close to breaking Sylvia Fowles’ program record for double-doubles, which she held for 19 consecutive seasons during 2006-07. Reese scored at least 19 points in 15 consecutive games and has exceeded the 20 point threshold 14 times. … Reese’s most recent dominant performance occurred on the same day that former LSU and WNBA stars Seimone Augustus were honored in the first and second quarters. Augustus was the first female student-athlete who had a statue unveiled at LSU.
