Samsung announces a 200MP camera sensor, which is likely to be in the Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung continues its mantra of “more pixels are better” with the release of its 200-megapixel (MP), sensor. The ISOCELL HP2 is a relatively large (for a smartphone) Type 1/1.3 sensor (around 12mm diagonally) with a pixel pitch of 0.6 micrometers (μm) — in between the 200-megapixel HP1 And HP3 sensors. It has a higher light gathering rate than previous sensors and new HDR features. This sensor will be used in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone.

Samsung’s Dual Vertical Transfer Gate technology (D-VTG), is used in the HP2. The company explained that this doubles the electrons available to each photo diode and “boosts the pixel’s full-well capability by more than 33%.” This allows a pixel to hold more charge before saturation, which can reduce overexposure and improve color reproduction in bright sunlight conditions.

As before, it can transform into either a 1.2μm 50MP or 2.4μm 12.5MP sensor by binding either four or 16 neighboring pixels, allowing for better performance in low light. The camera can record up to 8K 30FPS video in 50MP mode (upped from 24 fps for the Galaxy S22) which minimizes cropping and allows for sharp video. Smart-ISO Pro is also used to capture 12.5MP HDR images as well as 4K HDR at 60 frames per second. As before, each pixel acts like a focus agent and allows for quick autofocus in low-light situations.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra only had a 108MP sensor. The 200MP HP1 chip was used in other devices, such as the Motorola 30 Edge Ultra and Xiaomi 12T Pro. Rumours suggest that the S22 Ultra will have a 108MP sensor and a 200MP HP1 chip. S23 Ultra will have a 200MP sensorAccording to Samsung, the HP2 meets all these criteria as it is already in mass production. The Galaxy S23 has arrived. set to be revealed It will take just two weeks to complete the 2023 Census on February 1, 2023.
