Draft Wire 2-round mock draft: Texans strengthen their defensive line

Bryce Young to Houston Texans as expected As humanity colonizes Mars. For mock drafts, mocking Houston’s Alabama signal caller is an accepted practice.

Luke Easterling of the Draft Wire released his latest two-round mock, and the usual No. 1 overall selection of Young was made by the Texans. Easterling chose a different take on Houston by using their second round 1 pick to take TCU receiver Quentin Johnston.

Where Easterling added a fascinating twist was in Round 2 — principally because no one else is writing two-round mocks this early in the draft cycle — where the Texans used their 32nd overall pick to take Iowa defensive lineman Lukas Van Ness.

Van Ness also had 10.5 tackles for loss and 37 combined tackles. He also had 6.0 sacks during 13 games with Iowa. Van Ness, 6-5 and 264 lbs, could be used by the Texans on the left side to provide run-stuffing defense end. Van Ness would make a good transition piece if the Texans decide to return to the 3-4, under a new coach.
