‘UFC simply lost the bid’
Eddie Alvarez Blasphemy Dana White Over his comments about Francis Ngannou’s departure from the UFC.
Ngannou, heavyweight champion parted ways with the UFC After failing to agree to a new contract. White said Ngannou now is in a position to fight lesser competition for potentially more money, and left because he doesn’t want to risk fighting UFC opponents.
Alvarez reacted to White’s comments, and the former UFC lightweight champion laughed them off.
“UFC simply lost the bid for Francis, instead of admitting that, they go with the narrative the the scariest motherf*cker alive is afraid to fight in the UFC hahhahahahhahahahhahahahhaa These jokes write themselves #PHSUnreal.”
White claimed that UFC offered Ngannou a deal that would have made him the highest paid heavyweight in the promotion’s history ahead of Brock Lesnar. Ngannou wanted to be allowed to box while he was with the UFC. White refused to agree to these terms.
Ngannou, however, is too scared to fight at the UFC. Alvarez said that’s a stretch.
“Nobody in the UFC is “afraid” of anyone. The men who fight there are there to fight the best … The UFC is afraid to pay fighters, this is the only reason people leave, fighters don’t give a f*ck who the next opponent is, they do care about what the pay will be. Let’s be real, and say that we lost the bid.
“It’s counterintuitive to pay fighters large purses because they become less cooperative and more dependent. When everyone is struggling and begs to fight, the business works well. Cooperation is essential. Large purses disrupt their own business.”
Alvarez left the UFC as a free agent in 2018. Alvarez signed immediately with ONE Championship, but the 39 year-old was released from his contract in September.
