UK Amazon workers in Coventry vote for strike action

LONDON, Reuters -Hundreds have voted for a walkout in the new Year in dispute over their wages, according to the union representing the workers.

Amanda Gearing, GMB Senior Organiser, said that Amazon workers in Coventry had made history. They will be the first formal strikers in the UK.

According to the GMB union, more than 98% of workers voted for strikes with a turnout exceeding 63%. They also stated that industrial action was likely to take place in 2012.

Britain is currently facing an unprecedented number strikes in many sectors, including ambulance, transport and nursing, as workers struggling to cope with rising inflation demand better pay.
