Wales and England agree to equal pay for international football

On Wednesday, the Football Association of Wales (FAW), became the latest governing body in reaching equal pay agreements for internationals.

The agreement is effective immediately and covers the entire period from the 2026 men’s World Cup to the 2027 women’s World Cup.

In a joint statement, the Wales women’s team and men’s teams released the following: “Together Stronger is the Cymru mantra for us all on and off the pitch, as we seek to bring Wales onto the global stage.”

“As part FAW’s efforts towards equality, I am proud to announce that both our men’s- and women’s team have agreed to an equal compensation structure for international matches in the future.”

The United States is the world champion, while European champions England and Spain are in Europe. Norway, Spain, and Spain are also among those countries that have instituted equal pay for male players to represent their country.

“We hope this will allow future generations, boys and girls, to see that there’s equality across Welsh international soccer,” said the statement of the players.

“With this agreement in place we will now look ahead at the Euro 2024 & 2025 qualifying campaigns as we aim for further success across both of our senior teams within the near future.”
