The Meditation Garden, located behind Graceland Mansion, was constructed originally in 1964-1965. meant as a place for contemplation Per Elvis Austalia.

While the garden — which people can visit during tours of Graceland — serves as Elvis’ final resting place, it isn’t where he was first buried.

Presley was buried in Memphis’ Forest Hill Cemetery, Aug. 18, 1977 two days after his death.

The coffin, which weighed in at 900 lbs, was stolen by the men who tried to take it and keep the rest for ransom. Although the scheme was so weak that they could only be charged for trespassing at the cemetery, three men were arrested. Presley and Gladys were moved to Graceland because they were afraid of being copied by other criminals.

Other family members of Elvis were buried on the estate since then.

Here’s everything you need to know about Graceland’s Mediation Garden, including who is buried there and what Presleys have to say about it.
