After Titans hire Ran Carteron, 49ers receive two additional third-round compensatory picks

The 49ers continue benefiting from the development of a diverse group coaches and personnel officers.

In 2020 the NFL implemented a new rule to try to incentivize teams to develop minority coaches and executives, which rewarded any team with two third-round compensatory picks if a minority was hired away from their franchise to become another team’s head coach or General Manager.

The 49ers will be eligible for third-round compensatory draft picks in the 2023 or 2024 NFL drafts. Titans hired 49ers director of pro personnel Ran Carthon as their new General manager.

This rule has been a consistent source of third-round draft picks for the 49ers. When the Commanders hired Martin Mayhew to be General Manager, when Robert Saleh was hired as head coach and the Dolphins hired Mike McDaniel to coach, third-round compensatory picks were also given out to the 49ers.

If DeMeco Ryans is hired as the head coach of the 49ers, it could add to their compensation picks.
