Small aircraft crashes near Buttonville Airport

A small airplane was involved in a crash that left it on the road next to Markham Airport, Ont. Monday.

York Regional Police confirmed that a plane was involved in a crash on 16th Avenue. It occurred between Woodbine Ave. (Hwy 404) and Buttonville Municipal Airport.

“Everyone is safe and accounted for at this time,” YRP said in on Twitter after the crash.

Officers ask drivers to stay off 16th Avenue, between Woodbine Avenue & Highway 404.

Paramedics reported that they received an emergency call at noon and treated two victims after the crash. Both of them did not require transport to the hospital.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada, an independent agency, will deploy a team of investigators in order to find out what caused the incident.

“The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators following today’s accident involving a Slingsby T67C aircraft near Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport, Ontario. According to a statement posted on their website, the TSB will collect information and evaluate the incident.

Several videos showing the crash of the plane on the highway surfaced online a few hours later.

A video posted by CP24 on Twitter shows what happened after the crash on the highway. The plane was surrounded by paramedics.

Another dramatic video was uploaded by BlogTO Twitter captured the plane colliding in Markham, and it almost missed hitting a car.

It’s not known why the pilot touched down on the road.
