GOBankingRates used data provided by ApartmentList, Sperling’s Best, and the Economic Policy Institute’s Family Budget Calculator to find the best places for families to rent for less than $6,000 per month. This data combined allowed us to determine the average rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in 2022, the cost of children within selected metro areas, and identify cities with a lower overall cost of living index of less than 90.
