Rescuers reunited an Australian shepherd with his owner after the dog fell into a flooded storm drain in California — and it’s all thanks to an Apple AirTag.

Seamus, a 1-year-old puppy, was separated from Emilie Brigll during their afternoon walk on Monday. the dog owner told ABC 7 Los Angeles.

“He ran off from me, and he just walked down into this drainage,” she stated. “The water was flowing so fast, I think it took just one paw in the water to make him disappear.”

San Bernardino Fire Department received a call regarding the missing dog and set to work finding it. Rescuers were searching the area when an employee at an RV facility nearby said that he heard Seamus barking. The fire department of California shared the information on Facebook.

“He observed Seamus’s movements and saw that Seamus had found a way to get out of the water to an access tube near him.” the agency wrote on social media. “Firefighters were flagged down & found Seamus in the tube staring back at them. He traveled more than a mile since he entered the storm drainage. He miraculously made it out of the fast-moving water & was stuck at the bottom of the tube.”

Seamus was brought to fire station with his Apple AirTag and conventional ID.

Brill stated that she was “blown away” by the level of emergency response.

For the fire department’s part, the rescue was all in a day’s work — even if they didn’t get a new pet.

“While Seamus would have loved to be a fire station puppy, we are glad that we could reunite him with his owners,” San Bernardino Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post.
