Girls of Bemidji top the field; Detroit Lakes Invite boys place 2nd

Jan. 12—CALLAWAY — The Bemidji High School Nordic skiing teams had a banner day on Thursday in Callaway.

The Lumberjacks took on the field at Detroit Lakes Invite. They finished first and second in the boys and girls competitions. The girls won the competition with 381 team point to beat Alexandria (377) and Alexandria (346). The boys took home 362 team points to finish second to Brainerd (384), but beat Fergus Falls (346).

Mia Hoffmann placed second on the girls’ side of Bemidji with a time in 29:41.0. Regan DeWitt placed fifth in 30.10.4, Molly Matetich was sixth in 30.17.6. Ella Simula came in 10th place with a time 30.44.4. This completes the Jacks’ team score.

Louis Morrissey, a BHS boy, was fifth in the race with a time of 27:05.4. Reed Kuzel (seventh place, 27:16.4); Jack Mueller (12th place, 28:32.1); and Bjorn Kruna (18th place, 29:58.2) completed the team score.

TrekNorth was also represented at the event. The Sundog boys came in sixth place, while the girls were seventh.

Trey Godding (36) was 31:47.4, Sam Wielenberg (48) was 34:00.1, Hank Spangler (50th), 34:54.4), Matt Wielenberg (54) was 37:13.7). TrekNorth girls competition: Caitlynn Witner (48th) 37:06.6; Pamela Moen (454th), 41.23.0); Hank Spangler (554th), 34.54.4) and Matt Wielenberg (554th), respectively.

Bemidji will ski next at the Alexandria invitation at a time to determine on Wednesday, January 18.
