Boston defers $75M to Devers, and pays through 2043

BOSTON — Rafael Devers He has $75 million in deferred salary in his new contract with Boston Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox committed $331 million over 11 season to third baseman, but will not fully repay the money until 2043.

Boston signed a 10-year, $313.5M contract that covers 2024-33. This follows a $17.5 Million one-year agreement on Jan.

Devers’ long-term deal includes a $20 million signing bonus, of which $5 million is payable each February from 2023-26.

He earns salaries of $27.5million per year in 2024-26 and $31 million each year in 2027-30. In 2023-33, he gets $29 million per saison.

$7.5million will be deferred for each season of this long-term agreement. The money will be paid 10 years after the season it is earned. Half of the money will be due on February 1st and half on November 30th.

If Devers is traded, Devers will receive a $2,000,000 assignment bonus. It would be payable by the receiving team.

Devers was the AL’s starting All-Star third baseman each of the past two years. He batted.295 in 141 games last year, with 42 doubles and 27 home runs, as well as 88 RBIs.

Boston hopes to bounce back from finishing last in the AL East at number 78-84. The Red Sox won the AL Championship Series in 2021 with 92 wins.

Last week, the Red Sox signed a $21.7million contract for a two-year period with a third baseman. Justin Turner. His contract includes an $8.3million salary this year, a $13.4million option for 2024 and a $6.7million buyout. Turner can also earn $1 million in performance bonuses based on plate appearances. He will receive $200,000 for every 480 plate appearance and an additional 20 through 560.
