Dolphins selected for HBO’s Hard Knocks this year. And McDaniel updates soon

In addition to our Monday Dolphins stories here and here, we’ll have a live blog here this afternoon, with more news coming, including injury updates from Mike McDaniel’s 4:30 p.m. news conference. We will add updates to the top:

3:20 p.m.: The NFL has selected the Dolphins to appear on this year’s in-season incarnation of “Hard Knocks,” which offers a behind the scenes look at coaches, players and how the team operates behind closed doors.

The Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals were spotlighted during the first two in-season editions of “Hard Knocks.”

The in-season Hard Knocks is a spin-off of the usual training camp “Hard Knocks” series produced by NFL Films and HBO. The original preseason “Hard Knocks” debuted in 2001; the Dolphins previously appeared in that August/early September series.

HBO and the NFL declined to say when the program will debut or how many episodes will air. But keep in mind that there were nine “Hard Knocks” episodes on the Cardinals last November, December and January — a larger volume than the typical five-episode preseason Hard Knocks.

Last year, the series aired on both HBO and the HBO Max streaming service. An HBO publicist declined to say if the series would air on HBO again this season or only on HBO Max, adding that will be announced soon.

Last year, then-Arizona coach Kliff Kingsbury said coaches and players were going to “want to be on your A-game” with the cameras always following, and added that it might be a motivational tool “if you use it the right way.”
