Giant 15-Foot Sinkhole Sucks 2 Cars in California, During Deadly US Hurricanes

California’s intense rainstorms caused two cars to plunge into a 15 foot sinkhole. Los Angeles Fire Department rescue crew had to rescue the victims. Help the passengers get out of their cars When the road collapsed in Chatsworth (San Fernando Valley), it trapped the cars below. According to local authorities, the sinkhole is currently expanding and is 40 feet deep. Here are some predictions from experts.

Sinkhole Trapped

A mother and her teenage daughter were forced to be together rescued Monday was Monday. Their Nissan, along with another pickup truck, fell into a sinkhole on Iverson Road just south the 118 Freeway. The pickup driver and passengers were able to escape their car, but the mother was still trapped.

Response by emergency teams

Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire and Ventura Fire responded quickly to the emergency and successfully extracted the mother and her daughter from the sinkhole. It took about an hour to complete the dangerous rescue. “It was an exciting rescue.” says LAFD Cpt. Erik Scott

Rescue Operation

Cpt. Scott explained that the rescue was delicate because the cars were still moving. “The cars had been moving and shifting,” he said. “Firefighters did an outstanding task with the calculated rescue. We did a high angle rope rescue. Our big aerial ladder truck was used to lower firefighters on ropes, secure them with harnesses, and then lift them to safety.

More rain is expected

Local authorities are worried that more rain will fall in the coming days. John Lee, a Councilmember for District 12, said, “It’s deeper and it’s going to continue eroding away.” “So, what do we need to do? We’re expecting more rainfall, so we have to find a way of diverting the water. To be able to get the cars out, we have to create some slope in the front.

Take care

Los Angeles Department of Public Works crews are trying to stabilize the sinkhole. It is being advised that drivers should be cautious in extreme weather conditions. Cpt. Scott says. “This is precisely the reason we give those warnings.”
