‘I just didn’t see the same fire that I’m coming with’ in first UFC 283 faceoff with Glover Teixeira
RIO DE JANEIRO – Jamahal Hill We got a glimpse of his intense Tuesday face-off with Glover Teixeira.
Hill (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) faced off With Teixeira in Brazil, ahead of their vacant lightweight title fight at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro. After prelims broadcast on ABC, and early prelims broadcast on ESPN+, the main card will air on pay-per view.
In a fierce, but respectful encounter, the confident knockout artist met Teixeira, a former champion (33-8 MMA and 16-6 UFC).
“(I’m) just hungry – ready for the kill,” Hill told reporters, including MMA Junkie on Wednesday at UFC 283 media day. “Whenever I’m in a faceoff or whenever I’m in the cage, you see the difference in my eyes. It’s a competitor, and this competitor is a killer.
“I (saw) some fire in his eyes. I (saw) that he’s just ready. You can tell he’s been here before and he’s ready to go through it, but I just didn’t see the same fire that I’m coming with.”
Hill has defeated his previous three opponents, most recently Thiago Santios, the former title challenger. But going up against an experienced veteran like Teixeira, Hill thinks he’s in for his toughest challenge to date.
“I’d say Glover would probably be the biggest test of my career to this point, just because the level he’s fought at, the level he’s been fighting at, and just the experience and overall the strength of schedule that he had,” Hill said.
