TSN’s Chris Johnston reported that the Detroit Red Wings have placed forward Jakub Vina on waivers.

Vrana (26 years old) has played in only two games this year, scoring a goal and helping to score. Vrana, 26, entered the NHL/NHLPA’s player assistance program on Oct. 19. It is designed to provide players with treatment for mental and substance abuse problems.

“I don’t feel the need to share anything with anyone for me personally.” [about why I was in the program]. It’s for my personal reasons.” Vrana told reporters When he was reunited with the Red Wings last October. “There are more important things in life than just hockey. You will deal with things bigger than hockey and whatever else it might be. It is crucial to make that choice [before] It’s too late. It’s time to make important decisions in your life, and hockey is not one of them.

Vrana was re-signed on Dec. 16 and, after participating in some practices with Detroit’s Griffins, was assigned to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins for a conditioning stint. He did not register a point, and he earned a minus five in three games last week with the Griffins.

Prague, Czech Republic native Vrana scored 13 goals in 26 games and 19 points last season, after missing 56 games because of shoulder surgery. Vrana is currently in the second year a $15.75 million contract ($5.25 million AAV) that he signed with Detroit on August 2021.

Vrana, despite struggling to stay healthy during his time with Red Wings in the NHL, will be a magnet for many teams looking to add offensive firepower to their roster.

Vrana was purchased by the Red Wings in April 2021 from the Washington Capitals as part of a package deal with forward Anthony Mantha.

He has scored 98 goals and 91 assists in 323 NHL games. This totals 189 points. He registered a career-high 52 points for the 2019-20 season. Vrana was awarded the Stanley Cup in 2018 with the Capitals.
