Hackett has experience as a coordinator despite his failings in Denver. Hackett spent three seasons as an offensive coordinator with the Green Bay Packers. He also served as the quarterbacks coach for four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars and two with Buffalo Bills.

Robert Saleh, Jets head coach, overlapped with Hackett during their time on the Jaguars’ coaching team in 2016. Saleh was the linebackers coach for the team, while Hackett was quarterbacks coach. Hackett was promoted to offensive coordinator following the firing of Gus Bradley.

The Jets have reached out a lot to offensive coaches in order to fill the open coordinator role. parted ways with Mike LaFleur last week. New York has already talked to at least five other candidatesEx-Colts OC Marcus Brady, Miami Dolphins QB coach Darrell Bevell and Nick Caley are former New England Patriots tight ends coaches. Brian Johnson, Philadephia Eagles Quarterbacks coach, Kevin Patullo is the Eagles passing coordinator.

The Jets’ vast pool of possible coordinators doesn’t make sense without a plan for quarterback. New York has many options for quarterback. They can choose to continue developing Zach Wilson or draft a rookie. Or go out and acquire a veteran passer via free agency or trade. There are a few young talent players in the Jets that could be a good option for an offensive role, such as wideout Garrett Wilson or Elijah Moore or running back Breece.

Hackett may not be an ideal choice due to his Denver history, but he has worked with many quarterbacks and offenses in his time in the league. Some of those didn’t pan out – like E.J. Blake Bortles or Manuel in Jacksonville, however, Aaron Rodgers had back-to-back MVP seasons. Hackett ran the offense in Green Bay in 2020-2021.

The Jets are knocking at the door of the playoffs and the team cannot afford to lose its offensive coordinator.
