Operator of Lithuania-Latvia Gas Pipeline: Explosion

VILNIUS (Reuters – A gas pipeline that connects Lithuania and Latvia was destroyed in an explosion Friday, Amber Grid, Lithuanian gas transmission operator, said to Reuters.

LRT, Lithuanian public broadcaster, released video that showed the fire spreading in the area.

Operator said that the blast took place in northern Lithuania.

Amber Grid spokesperson stated that they are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.

According to the Baltic news agency BNS, police were planning to evacuate a nearby village.

BNS said that no injuries or deaths were reported.
