Christian Wood, Mavericks forward, out for at least one week with a fractured thumb

Christian Wood, Dallas Mavericks forward, will be absent at least for a week. .

Wood sustained a fractured left thumb in the second quarter of the Mavericks’ 130-122 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night in Dallas. Wood was able to finish the game, although he had tape around his thumb.

He’ll be evaluated again in a week, meaning he’ll miss at least their next four games.

Wood averages 18.4 points per game and 8.4 rebounds this season. This is second to Luka Doncic, who is the only player on the team. Wood had 22 points and nine rebounds in the Mavericks’ loss to the Hawks, and he’s put up 21.6 points and 10.1 rebounds in their last 10 games.

Wood, 27, is now in the final year on a $41 million three-year deal that he signed with Houston Rockets. He’s worked his way into the starting lineup since landing in Dallas after starting as their sixth man. It’s unclear if the Mavericks will sign Wood to the four-year, $77 million deal he’s eligible for.

Wood is now out of the Mavericks’ lineup, leaving only JaVale McGee (big man) and Dwight Powell (big man). Maxi Kleber, Forward, still has a hamstring problem.

The Mavericks currently have a record of 24-22 overall, which is the fifth-best in the Western Conference. They’ve lost three straight, and six of their last eight.
