Christian Wood, Mavericks forward, out for at least one week with a fractured thumb

Wood sustained a fractured left thumb in the second quarter of the Mavericks’ 130-122 loss to the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday night in Dallas Wood finished the game with tape on his thumb.

He’ll be evaluated again in a week, meaning he’ll miss at least their next four games.

Wood averages 18.4 and 8.4 points per game this season. He is the second star on the team. Luka Doncic. Wood had 22 points and nine rebounds in the Mavericks’ loss to the Hawks, and he’s put up 21.6 points and 10.1 rebounds in their last 10 games.

Wood, 27 years old, is currently in the last year of a $31 million, three-year deal he signed with The Houston Rockets. He’s worked his way into the starting lineup since landing in Dallas after starting as their sixth man. It’s unclear if the Mavericks will sign Wood to the four-year, $77 million deal he’s eligible for.

The Mavericks currently have a record of 24-22 overall, which is the fifth-best in the Western Conference. They’ve lost three straight, and six of their last eight.
