MOE kindergartens will be more accessible because of their priority entry

SINGAPORE — In a move to make it more accessible for children from lower-income households to attend the Ministry of Education (MOE) kindergartens, the income cap for priority admission has been raised from a gross monthly household income of $3,500 to $4,500.

According to the ministry, the change will be effective on Wednesday (18/01/), when the registration process for 2023 starts.

Children who live within one kilometre from the kindergartens and are Singaporeans will be given the highest priority for admission.

These children receive one-third, while permanent residents and citizens who have siblings in primary or kindergarten will get the remainder. Permanent residents then follow citizens in general.

55 MOE kindergartens are available for registration

The number of MOE kindergartens that are available to register children for Kindergarten 1 in 2024 has increased from 50 in 2022.

Singaporeans who attend MOE kindergartens will pay $160 per month in 2023, while permanent residents will pay $320.

MOE stated that all its kindergartens will hold their open-house events either on 11 or 18 February. Parents are encouraged to come and learn about the curriculum, programmes, and facilities.

MOE kindergartens provide bilingual care and offer subsidised after-school programs called Kindergarten Care.
