NC State radio announcer suspended indefinitely after making an ‘illegal aliens’ comment during Mayo Bowl broadcast

NC State radio announcer Gary Hahn was suspended indefinitely right after the Wolfpack’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl loss on Friday for a remark he made about migrants in El Paso.

The Mayo Bowl saw the Mayo Bowl kick off, and the Sun Bowl in El Paso was launched during it. As Hahn was referencing the game, he mentioned the “illegal aliens” in the Texas city.

“Learfield has suspended Wolfpack Sports Network play-by-play announcer Gary Hahn from his agreement indefinitely following comments made during today’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl radio broadcast,” a statement from Wolfpack Sports Properties said.

Hahn has worked as the football and men’s basketball announcer for NC State since 1991.

El Paso has declared a state of emergency Because of the humanitarian crisis facing it. As thousands of migrants crossed the Mexican border to the city, city workers and volunteers scrambled for shelter and food for those in need. Oscar Leeser, the mayor, declared a state emergency one week before Christmas to help the city deal with the flood of migrants.

The city’s convention center has been turned into a shelter Over 400 migrants were accommodated there over Christmas. The Supreme Court’s decision to keep Title 42 in place as legal challenges to it continue. This policy, which was adopted by the Trump administration, allows the United States to deport more migrants quickly from the country. It was implemented in the early days of COVID-19.

Leeser claimed that up to 2,500 migrants are coming to the city every day. The city has also received millions in federal funds to assist with this issue.

NC State fell to Maryland in the Mayo Bowl, ending the season at 8-5. If Hahn is not suspended, the Wolfpack’s next scheduled event will be against Duke on Jan. 4.
