As Disney+ UK All the best for the new year Star Wars Fans can watch a new set of episodes from animated series The Bad Batch while they wait. Hugh Jackman In an animated sitcom, the protagonist takes center stage.

Elsewhere, Kumail Nanjiani Welcome to Chippendales tells the story of the man behind an entire empire of male strippers. The series starts with a story about business, but quickly turns into a story about criminality and murder. Extraordinary is a British series in which a young female is the only one in the world who has a superpower.

Disney+ UK to release original films in January 2023

The Menu (4 January).

Mark Mylod is a Succession director and delivers sharp-toothed comedy set in haute cuisine. Ralph Fiennes plays a renowned chef who invites people to his island restaurant to sample his unusual menu. However, there’s something dark underneath it all. Nicholas Hoult (and Anya Taylor Joy) are just two of the many guests that Fiennes invites to his island restaurant.

If These Walls Could Sing (6 Jan)

This documentary is presented by Mary McCartney (Paul McCartney’s daughter) and explores the fascinating history of London’s Abbey Road Studios.

The film covers nine decades of history, and nearly every type of music, as it digs deep into the heart of the longest-running studio in the world.

The Flagmakers (13/01/)

The short film, directed by award-winning directors Cynthia Wade and Sharon Liese, examines the contemporary resonance and impact the American flag has on society. It follows a selection of people responsible for making flags of various sizes — some of whom are American, while others are immigrants or refugees. They talk about their perceptions of the flag, and what it could mean for the future.

Retrograde (13 Jan)

Matthew Heineman, America’s most famous documentary filmmaker, has won numerous awards and accolades for documentaries such as City of Ghosts (Cartel Land) and City of Ghosts (City of Ghosts). In 2018, he also moved into narrative features with A Private War. It starred Rosamund Pike as Marie Colvin, a war reporter.

Retrograde is one of the leading contenders for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar. It examines the last nine months of American involvement in Afghanistan’s war and the withdrawal of its troops from that country. Heineman tells this story from several perspectives: US troops, Afghan soldiers, and civilians who are trying to protect themselves and their families.

The Territory (13 February)

The Amazon’s continued deforestation is one of the largest environmental problems currently in the world. Nat Geo’s documentary focuses on the struggles of the Uru-euwau-wau people from Brazil to preserve their land. They also set up their own news station to further their cause.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch S2 (4 Jan)

This animated series from Dave Filoni, set in the aftermath to the Clone Wars, follows a elite group of genetically modified clone troopers. Filoni’s Clone Wars animated series first featured them, but this show follows their secretive missions after the conflict. Dee Bradley Baker is back to voice the troopers.

Reservation Dogs S2 (4 February)

The series follows troubled teenagers from North America’s reservation. The creators of the series are Taika Waititi and SterlinHarjo. After the loss of their friend, they still grieve and are scattered across the country, trying to cope with adult problems.

Koala Man (all episodes starting 9 January).

Michael Cusack, an Australian animator, has created this sitcom about superheroes for adults. He plays the title role of a family patriarch and is also kind-of secretly a koala-based superhero. His only strength is his steadfast devotion towards the rules. Hugh Jackman is also in the cast as Big Greg — leader of the town council.

The show’s executive producer is Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, who is also behind Koala Man’s Hulu bedfellow Solar Opposites.

Chasing Waves (11 Jan)

Chasing Waves focuses on the people and places at the heart of Japanese surfing culture. (Disney)

The Tokyo Olympics saw surfing make its debut, making it the most prominent sport event in the world. This docuseries explores surfing culture in Japan — 18,000 miles of coastline is very enticing for surfers, of course — and its impact on the sport globally, with contributions from some of the most notable professional surfers on the planet.

Chippendales: Welcome (all episodes starting on 11 January).

Indian entrepreneur Somen “Steve” Banerjee rose to fame in the late 1970s when he added a troupe of male strippers to his LA nightclub — the Chippendales. Kumail Nanjiani portrays Banerjee in this series. The series explores Banerjee’s rise and his subsequent involvement in a string of murders. This is a true crime series. It’s quite a dramatic fall from grace.

Little Demon (all Episodes starting on 18 January).

The adult animated series features a stellar voice cast that includes Aubrey Plaza, Danny DeVito, and Michael Shannon. Plaza voices a woman who was impregnated by Satan 13 years ago and is now raising her daughter — the Antichrist. While they are trying to live a normal, uncomplicated life in Delaware, they face many problems, not the least of which is Satan (DeVito), who wants custody over their daughter’s soul.

Extraordinary (all episodes starting 25 January)

This British comedy series depicts a world in that every citizen gets a superpower upon turning 18. Jen (Máiréad Tyers), however, is 25 and hasn’t a glimmer of a special ability yet. She struggles with her problem with her flatmates, and begins a journey with a clinic that might be able help her discover her hidden power.
