Fans surprised by Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Frasier revival role

Nicholas Lyndhurst has joined the cast of the Frasier sequel series — and British people are very surprised.

The actor, who is a sittingcom legend because of his role in Only Fools and Horses as Rodney Trotter, will join the lead man Kelsey Grammer In the Paramount+ show.

Lyndhurst and Grammer had previously worked together in West End casting of Don Quixote musical Man of La Mancha, but 2019’s Frasier marks Grammer’s first major role in an American sitcom.

In the new iteration of Frasier, Lyndhurst will play university professor Alan Cornwall — described in the official synopsis as “British, boozy and larger than life”.

The synopsis is reported via Variety, continues: “Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier’s — if only he ever felt like using it.

“Alan’s mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier’s thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life.”

Lyndhurst who denied retiring from acting last year, is a British TV veteran who appeared in many sitcoms including Goodnight Sweetheart. He also played the iconic role of Del Boy opposite David Jason.

However, Grammer and his sudden move to American screens surprised many people who were confused by the news on Twitter.

Paramount announced that the sequel to Frasier was coming in February 2021. Grammer was confirmed immediately as the psychiatrist Frasier crane.

Grammer is a veteran of the role, having played it in Cheers and Wings.

The star is now keen on a revival Paramount+ finally gave the green light to the project through writers Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother), and Joe Cristalli (“Life in Pieces”).

The show’s original version is still one of the most popular sitcoms ever, with critical acclaim. It also won 37 Emmy Awards.
