Residents oppose a four-day celebration at Perranporth’s airfield

More than 60 people opposed plans for a four day dance music festival at an airfield in Cornwall.

Hypnosis Events applied to Cornwall Council to be granted a license to hold an event on Perranporth Airfield.

There were 63 complaints filed. These concerns included noise nuisance and public safety.

Each applicant would like to host one event per summer with a maximum capacity for 7,500 persons.

According to the Cornwall Council, the application will be presented to its licensing act sub-committee on next week’s meeting. Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The BBC was told by a spokesperson that the promoters had been planning for over eight months and that they’ve been running events for 40-years.

They stated that their team was highly skilled and safety is their main objective. Security teams are part of the proposal, as well as dogs and fencing.

Roger Bull of Perranporth stated: “This area lies in very close proximity to the Clifftop. The terrain here is very rugged, and in many places quite precipitous.

“The thought of up to 7500 revellers near this area is nothing less than extreme negligence.”

Even though music would be played until 01:00, the application indicated that noise levels would be decreased after 23:00.

It also stated that the government would take steps to protect the public, stop drug use, and minimize the effects on the local community.

‘Public nuisance’

Perranporth Airfield can be found on the coast between St Agnes and the town.

Samantha Boston, Perranporth resident who is also a Perranzabuloe district councillor stated in her objection: “Perranporth hosts many festivals throughout the calendar year including Tunes in the Dunes Bands in the Sands, the Healey’s Cyder and others. There is no need for additional festivals of this magnitude and in this area.

Peter and Carla Jennings from St Agnes said that it would create a nuisance for local residents who go about their day.

Cornwall Council’s licensing sub committee will consider the licensing application when it meets online on 25/01/
