Small aircraft crashes near Buttonville Airport

A small airplane was involved in a crash that left it on the road next to Markham Airport, Ont. Monday.

York Regional Police (YRP), confirmed that a plane crashed on 16th Avenue between Woodbine Ave., Highway 404, and near Buttonville Municipal Airport.

“Everyone is safe and accounted for at this time,” YRP said in on Twitter after the crash.

Officers have asked drivers to steer clear of 16th Avenue between Woodbine Avenue & Highway 404.

Two people were injured in the accident. Paramedics reported that they received an emergency call at noon. Both of them did not require transport to the hospital.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada, an independent agency, will deploy a team of investigators in order to find out what caused the incident.

“The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators following today’s accident involving a Slingsby T67C aircraft near Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport, Ontario. According to a statement posted on their website, the TSB will collect information and evaluate the incident.

Several videos showing the crash of the plane on the highway surfaced online a few hours later.

A video posted by CP24 on Twitter shows what happened after the crash on the highway. The plane was surrounded by paramedics.

Another dramatic video was uploaded by BlogTO Twitter captured the plane colliding in Markham, and it almost missed hitting a car.

It is still not clear why the pilot landed on roadway.
