Maine expects snow Thursday afternoon, which will soon turn to rain as the temperatures rise later.

For much of the region away from the coast, Winter Weather Advisories are still in effect from 1 p.m. on Thursday to 7 a.m. on Friday. Mixed precipitation is expected to be the heaviest in the foothills and mountains — including Franklin and Oxford counties. Total snow accumulations are expected to range from 3 to 6 inches, with ice accumulations as high as one-tenth inch. Wind gusts can reach up to 35 mph.

Androscoggin County should see less snow than 2 inches and a light glaze.

Combining heavy and moderate snow with low visibility can lead to dangerous driving conditions. The dangerous

Conditions could affect Friday morning and Thursday evening commutes.

In the afternoon, snow should rapidly change to rain in southeastern New Hampshire.

The snow will change to a wintry mix, and then rain tonight into tomorrow with light icing over the interior.

In areas that receive heavy rains tonight and Friday, localized flooding is possible. Tonight’s winds could gust up to 35 mph or 45 mph in the immediate vicinity.

Snow showers may be scattered on Saturday. They will then dry up early next week.
