Five NFL teams require a head coach. Which opening is best?

As Sean Payton, imagine yourself. Teams usually choose from a pool of candidates. Practically speaking, Payton picks which team hires his.

Five teams are looking for a head coach. Four of the five have requested interviews from Payton. Which job opening is best? It takes a lot to rank landing spots.

Let’s add the Indianapolis ColtsThe only team that has an opening and has not asked to speak to Payton.

The Texans need to hire a head coach. The team will have its fourth coach in four years, and the person who is hired will be their fourth. Two straight one-and done coaches have been their experience, which is a testament to the terrible decisions the franchise has made. Ownership is a major problem. A team with a record of 11-38-1 over the past three years has not had many young players. Bad trades, poor drafts continue to cost the franchise. Although the Texans hold the second draft pick, that didn’t make it a great year. Houston won the season finale. The Bears received the first pick. With a great head coach and some good drafts, any team can turn the tide. Houston, however, is the NFL’s final franchise. This opening has one positive aspect: the bar for success is very low.

Kyler Murray When he was healthy, he probably wasn’t a $230million quarterback. That’s the contract Murray got last year. And that was before he tore the ACL late in the season. Murray might not be able to play for the season. For a quarterback who is so dependent on his mobility, it’s possible that he won’t be the same player after he returns. Add that uncertainty to a roster with very few blue-chip players. The Cardinals don’t have a long history. They are the American professional sports team with the longest championship drought. They have won only one playoff game since 2009 and made it to the playoffs once since 2015. This is one of the NFL’s most losing teams, with an overpaid and injured quarterback and a roster that requires a lot more work. Not great.

3. Indianapolis Colts

Forget about the Jeff Saturday circus that made Jim Irsay appear like he is losing it. The Colts were once a favorite to win the AFC South. They need a quarterback — but they have the fourth pick of the draft, which might solve that problem — but there are a lot of other good players on the roster. The Colts were in trouble this season. They hired an interim coach on Saturday, making them laughable. Irsay is just as unpredictable as any NFL owner. But at least this will not be a long-term rebuild.

The job was looking very bad when Nathaniel Hackett got fired. The team did better in the last two games. Russell Wilson Played his best two games of the season, and suddenly there was hope. (This is why we must ignore the “what good it would do to fire the coach halfway through the season?” crowd). Perhaps you can sell Wilson’s struggling coach on Hackett’s behalf. Additionally, Hackett’s struggles are partly due to the NFL’s new ownership, which allows them to spend extravagantly on a new coach. The franchise has been successful for decades, even though it’s been poor in the years since 2015. This opening was made better by Hackett being fired when the Broncos did. It gave the team enough time to finish strong.

This is the difference between the Broncos job and this one: Only one franchise can compete with the other. Patrick Mahomes And Justin Herbert The one must deal with Desmond Ridder for the next ten years. Kyle Trask? Whoever the Saints decide to hire for 2023. Carolina also has a question about their quarterback, but they should be able to answer that the division is available for anyone who wants it. The rest isn’t too bad, which was a plus for Steve Wilks as interim coach. A new coach could win a division title for the first time. David Tepper is willing to do everything necessary to secure the quarterback. Because he is impulsive and doesn’t seem to have a deep understanding of the NFL business, he makes a difficult owner to work with. But, you would prefer a more aggressive owner to a less-skilled one. There is a clear path to success. Depending on how fast other teams decide quarterback, the Panthers may run the division for several years.
